Rivers state, the oil city of Nigeria has Onne OGFZA where one Nigerias Refinery is situated.
But he Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority (OGFZA), Mr Tijjani Kaura, is calling on the State government to collaborate with them to develop Ikpokiri island.
According to him, the goal of this is to establish more oil and gas free zones to boost Nigeria’s economy.
The MD of OGFZA made the call during a courtesy visit with his management team to the Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara.
According to him, there huge opportunities available at the Island, but has remained a green field virgin land without much development since it was declared a free zone in 1996.
“if the state government would take advantage of the area to support OGFZA in the development effort, Ikpokiri would become another modern city in the State”.
He disclosed that foreign investors from Japan have already indicated interest in investing in the island.
Governor Fubara in his response, appreciated OGFZA’s MD and his management for identifying with the state government.
He however expressed his willingness to collaborate with the Authority in due time.
