Rivers state House of Assembly recommends profiling of Scrap scavengers in the state due to stealing manholes and wire mesh.

The Rivers State House of Assembly has recommended that scavengers in the state be profiled, registered and numbered to checkmate the removal of manhole covers and wire mesh used in the newly constructed flyovers.

Chairman of the House Adhoc Committee on Stealing of Manholes and Wire Mesh, VICTOR OKO-JUMBO stated this while meeting with National Association of Scrap and Waste Dealers Employers of Nigeria at the state Assembly complex.

The member representing Bonny Constituency OKO-JUMBO also said the House recommended that the Ministry of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation remove mentally deranged persons at the flyovers as some illegal scavenger’s disguise as destitute to perpetrate evil. 

On behalf of the Chairman of the National Association of Scrap and Waste Dealers Employers of Nigeria, Legal Adviser of the Union, Barrister FELIX UBAH said the union has resolved to cooperate with the State government to ensure those damaging state infrastructures face the law.
