Rivers Government partner Nigeria Immigration Service on investment drive, Internal security

The Rivers State Government has indicated readiness to partner the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) on investment drive, internal security and other developmental areas of interest for the people of Rivers State.

This was made known on Wednesday during coutesy visit on the Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara by the Comptroller Rivers State Command, James Sunday at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

During the visit, Comptroller, James Sunday, disclosed that the meeting with the Rivers State Governor, was hinged on partnership and development drives in the area of Investment, Internal Security and other developmental areas of interest.

The NIS comptroller also expressed appreciation for the kind gesture and magnanimity of the Governor and used the opportunity to extend the service appreciations on behalf of the Acting Comptroller General for the supports the Command had enjoyed and to re-assure him of the service commitment to work hand in hand with the new administration for the progress, development and overall good of the Nation and the good people of Rivers State .

The Comptroller reiterated the long standing relationship between the State Government and the NIS, since 1967,when Rivers State was Created out of the Eastern Region on the 27th May, 1967 and subsequent creation of Bayelsa State out of the Old Rivers State on the 1st October,1996,with the creation of Omuma Local Government Area the same day bringing the local Government Areas to 23 LGAs.

According to him, Nigeria Immigration Service has Divisional Immigration Officers in the 23 LGAs and Command Headquarters in Port Harcourt the state capital and a passport office.
