Rivers State Governor, His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara has inaugurated a commitee for the distribution of Federal Government palliatives released to cushion the impact of Subsidy removal.

Gov. Fubara while inaugurating the committee at the executive chambers, Government House, Port Harcourt charged them to ensure the paliative distribution cuts across party lines, prioritizing the downtrodden.

Recall that due to the hardship experienced by Nigerians due to the removal of fuel subsidy, the National Economic Council, NEC, approved N5 billion grant to be given to each of the 36 states of the federation for the procurement of grains as well as five trucks of rice to each state as palliatives to cushion the effect.

The committee comprises Ambassador Desmond Akawor as chairman, Hon. Dabraboye Briggs, Secretary, representatives of the National and State Emergency Management Agencies (NEMA and SEMA), 23 Local Government Chairmen, and a cabinet representative of the Rivers State Government, Mrs. Inime Aguma, Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation.

Akawor in his remarks thanked the Governor for the confidence reposed on them, assuring the committee’s resolve in ensuring they discharge their duties efficiently.
